Traveling

Life has been busy over here! We have a new pup named Moose who has been adjusting to his new home at a snails pace. On top of that, my schedule is filling up quickly! In a week and a half, I'm jetting off to NYC to call cues for an opera with the company I used to work for. It's been a stressful few days of making the final decisions and travel arrangements for that assignment. But now that I have the flight booked and friends with couches at the ready, I'm dreaming of the perfect suitcase to make my traveling life easy as pie! In the past, I have always checked a bag due to the liquid constraints. However, in the interest of saving that $25 for a few cocktails along the way, I'm looking into the possibility of fitting all my necessary objects into one small carry-on suitcase. I have a nice little pink one, but I'm afraid it might be too big for the overhead compartment. So these are the options I've been wishing I had this time around:

These two beautifully styled photos are from Mango's Spring 2011 collection. I love the rolling old-school looking suitcases and then just a purse to hold the magazine, snacks and iPod that are necessary for a happy flight!

These girls look so stylish while waiting for delayed flights. They may have more luggage than my trip can handle, but I'm still envious of their pretty bags and seemingly effortless airport fashion. Both photos were obtained via weheartit.com

These are some of the bags I would LOVE to have! Thanks much to designsponge for the luggage round-up that has me drooling over these beauties. Some day...

Someone I Love (a LOT)
Coincidentally, he is holding his favorite drink!

My Favorite Drink
Diet Coke, which I happen to be drinking right now!
It's best out of a fountain and in a huge QT cup!

Rant

Ok, I need a moment here to vent some blog frustration. This has been bothering me for a few weeks, and it's time I got this off my chest. One of my favorite blogs for the past few years has changed in an awful way. It started off as an awesome vintage fashion magazine that was so popular it was featured in mainstream magazines. It had a weekly schedule of great posts including style muses, pretty things found around the web, and previews of the latest batch of clothing headed to their online shop.

Well, about a year ago this blog went through a drastic life change. The blogger found out she was pregnant and went baby crazy. This was ok for awhile. I enjoyed looking at the cute nursery ideas she had and the things she bought for her baby. I was great with the "temporary" changes until about 6 months after the baby was born. I'm now over it. This used to be one of the best fashion blogs on the internet, in my opinion. Now it's pretty much all about her new baby, her other kids, and occasionally a post on what she wears. It's been forever since she added new clothing to her shop or even mentioned it. I know she's busy with her new baby and everyone needs some catch up time after having a baby, but it's not that she doesn't have time. She still blogs pretty regularly. Just the content has changed. And this makes me sad.

I guess it's just time for me to let go of that blog and enjoy the others I follow. I need to give up and stop hoping it'll go back to being the great fashion blog it once was just to be disappointed to see more baby posts. Let her just be a baby blogger and find new sites for fashion inspiration. Sigh.

Change is hard sometimes. :)

Day 2

Today was a good day. I met with Vicki from the Friends of Shelter Animals group and she gave me some materials to start making the kitty beds. It's basically a folded towel inside of fleece fabric, all sewed together so the stuffing doesn't slide around inside the fleece. I'll take pictures as I go and post them tomorrow. They aren't the prettiest beds, but they'll do for now. We need at the very least 72 beds. Lots of sewing up ahead! :)

I had lunch at Harvest Bread Co for the first time today and got a Tuscan Chicken panini. It was AMAZING! Best sandwich ever. For reals. At school, the kids I tutor were teaching me all about logarithms today. It's been a long time since high school math class for me and, since I never made it to pre-calc, I may never have even learned about them in the first place. Now I know a bit more than I did yesterday. I feel good about my new useless knowledge!

The boy and I had a great little dinner date tonight at Texas Roadhouse. Gotta love that place! So good. I wore my cute new black and white dress that I got last week. He loved it.

Tomorrow I have some errands to run, then it's home to start work on the kitty beds. I'd like to get at least ten done this weekend. I have most of tomorrow to myself, but when Isaac gets home from work we're planning on seeing a movie. No clue which one yet, but it's my choice!

Till tomorrow...

Day 1

And so begins yet another project to keep me busy...

My name is Jordan and I have been successfully exploring unemployment since last summer when I moved from the big city to the south. Apparently there are no jobs here. Go figure. To keep myself busy, I have been heavily reliant on other design blogs and reteaching myself to sew on my shiny new singer sewing machine!

This blog is going to be a place for me to motivate myself. With pictures and words, I will attempt to update with the to-do list, plans, and accomplishments of every. single. day. Good luck to me, right? :)

Let's start with today:

- I need to make a phone call to the lady at the animal shelter. I'll be sewing some new comfy beds for the homeless kitties in need and I have to meet with her to get some towels for stuffing and the measurements of the beds. I'm really excited to get started on this!

- I still need to eat breakfast. Yes, even though it is almost noon.

- I'm tutoring at the boy's school every afternoon from 3:30 - 5:30pm. Need to straighten mah hairs first...

- It's imperative that I finish cleaning the kitchen today and put my clothes away from laundry. I keep forgetting to do that.

- I'm super excited to start sewing a 70's style dress! My mom is awesome and bought me a ton of great fabric while we were in Florida last week. It's calling to me from my sewing room.

- Some other upcoming projects: Reupholster the 6 dining chairs given to us by the boy's parents; Give the office/sewing room a makeover; Stain and finish the coffee table to match our new credenza; Build a desk and kitchen table; Find a "new" couch, then sell our current one. (I'll be sure to try and document these goings on here for all (or just me) to see!)

And now, I leave you with some adorable pictures that I have found while roaming the interwebs...
